Bisti Winter...
The Bisti Badlands in winter.

BISTI WINTER CONDITIONS

Now my friends from South Dakota and places up north would just laugh at a New Mexico winter, isn't that true? Well, except for maybe this year, see the 06/07 Blizzard Pages. Anyway, New Years day, on one of my first trips to the Bisti, it was probaly 55 degrees in the middle of the day, that happens fairly often on a sunny winter day in northern New Mexico. However, during one trip to the Bisti, from December 19 to December 23, 2002, those were some of the coldest days for that year. Temperatures ranged from just above freezing to a low of 6 degrees on Thursday the 22, and winds gusted from 20 to 30mph. The weather was just brutal for soft car-camping photographers like me, but perfect if you're looking for rare snow pictures in the Bisti Badlands.
